UDig Diagnostic Assessment for Higher Education is a computer-based
assessment system published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press in China. It adheres to the concept of assessment for/as learning and has been designed to diagnose college- and university-level learners’ overall English language abilities, helping to identify their strengths and weaknesses and providing feedback and learning advice to both teachers and learners.
To ensure relevance to China’s situation, we have developed the assessment in accordance with China’s Standards of English Language Ability (CSE) as well as test specifications and English teaching requirements that are specific to China. Additionally, we recognize the importance of having an international perspective, so we have taken into consideration international language scales such as the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) during the development process. The system offers a comprehensive range of diagnostic tests, covering reading, listening, speaking, writing, grammar, and vocabulary, as well as a placement test aiming to determine the appropriate level for each learner.
